Program Highlights

Mentorship & Experience as a Paramedic Educator

Fellows will work closely with faculty who serve as the medical director for the Orlando Medical Institute, a state of the art, accredited paramedic training institution. Through their faculty position, they will have the opportunity to learn principles of teaching, hone their skills as an educator, design and facilitate educational workshops. and help prepare paramedic students for the NREMT
exam.

Faculty of a Scholarly Productive EM Residency

As faculty in Orlando’s only University based EM Residency, fellows will be able to engage in collaborative research across UCF’s numerous schools and departments. Fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in and lead quality improvement projects and research within the EM residency, that has published over 400 abstracts and 125 Epubmed indexed manuscripts.

Hands on Training with Osceola County, Kissimmee, & St. Cloud Fire Rescue

Fellows will be appointed as an Assistant Medical Director, providing medical direction for 3 ALS Fire Based agencies with a combined 50,000 EMS calls per year. They will also serve as site directors for the County’s only hospital based medical control base station. Other educational and service opportunities include innovative paramedic education and training with access to high
quality simulation equipment and telemedicine Integration.

Flight Medicine, Disaster, and Disney, Oh my!

This region is one of the top tourist destinations in the world! With over 60 million visitors each year, the area lends itself to event and disaster medicine. Through the Central Florida Disaster Team, fellows will be able to participate in events like the Electric Daisy Carnival, Forbidden Kingdom, Disney marathons, and locally hosted national events like the Special Olympics.

Clinical Privileges at a Level II Trauma Hospital

HCA Florida Osceola Hospital is the County’s only trauma hospital. There are approx. 80,000 patient visits per year including approx. 18,000 pediatric visits. Fellows will also have the opportunity to moonlight at
other area hospitals.

Mentorship from EM and EMS Board Certified Faculty

EM Board Certified Faculty with expertise in Ultrasound, Simulation, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, EMS and Pediatrics. We also participate in collaborative Journal clubs and joint didactics with Orange County and UF Fellowships.
